A petition is being circulated within the Glen Cove and surrounding towns area that expresses our lack of support for the proposed waterfront project. The petition cites the high-rise and high-density design, the attendant increase in traffic burdening an already failing road system, the toxicity of the soil beneath the buildings, the difficulty evacuating a cul-de-sac that also happens to be a 100-year flood plane and the improbability of any tax benefits to the City of Glen Cove from this project. I ask that you access the petition at petition@sosglencove.org and add your name to a growing list of local residents. Thank you.

Economist Martin Cantor on Friday kicked off a breakfast roundtable on brownfield redevelopment by talking up a hot-button project: the Glen Isle proposal, which would bring 16-story luxury condo buildings to the former Superfund site along Glen Cove Creek.

Cantor received $10,000 from developers Don Monti and Michael Posillico to prepare a document that attributed official rejection of their proposal to the city's financial problems.

The relationship was disclosed during the event, keynoted by Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy. But that didn't keep Glen Cove Mayor Ralph Suozzi from condemning Cantor's use of an academic bully pulpit to promote Glen Isle."I can't stand that they're using money to put out their version of the facts and no one's holding them accountable," Suozzi said.
